Product Review: Lucky Me! Udon

I love a lot of things that are 'Japanese'. One of them is their food esp. their noodles. Since I'm living in a provincial area, I don't have easy access to it. I chances upo. An FB ad about this new product by the Lucky Me! brand and it really piqued my interest. Moreover, it's Udon noodles which isn't still that common in the Philippines. It is sold at 50 php and for me, it is quite a reasonable price if ever I would need to satisfy my noodle craving. The sad thing is that it's only available in SM Supermarkets in the northern region of the Philippines. Fortunately, my nephew was going there and I asked him if he could buy me 3 of the variants available of Lucky Me! Udon. The available flavors are:

  • Japanese Curry

  • Pork Buta

  • Kimchi

The package includes 3 sachets of ingredients:

  • Udon noodles

  • Dehydrated vegetables and meat

  • Sauce

Japanese Curry:

This was the first variant I tried. It was flavorful and it was a bit spicy. I like the texture of the noodles although I would've loved it more if there was more noodles included in the package. The vegetables were okay but the meat could've been better. Although it is quite understandable why it is as such considering the amount paid - you get what you pay for 😂. I added a little chili powder to add more kick to it. 😉

Pork Buta:

This was the next flavor I tried. The flavor was so-so; perhaps I expected too much since I've gotten used to the rich tonkotsu broth ramen that I'm a big fan of 😂. And the pieces of meat were so-so as well. But as I've said... for 50 php, it's good enough 😉.

Kimchi:

This was my favorite of the bunch! It's really flavorful and the spice level was just right. Everything else was the same as the other two but I just loved the taste of the broth. If ever I would have to choose the best among the three variants, this would be at the top! 😎

My Personal Preference:

  1. Kimchi

  2. Japanese Curry

  3. Pork Buta

As a personal analysis, I think the company is trying to see the viability of the product if it were to be distributed nationwide. I do hope that these products would be warmly accepted in the local market as it offers something new to what we're used to when it comes to instant noodles. I love how Lucky Me! Is trying to create new products to be more globally competitive. As for me, I'd gladly wait for these products to be available in my area because I do love it esp. the Kimchi variant. 😎
